I am Phurpa Choden from Bhutan. I come from am from a single-parent family. We are five, two elder sisters and two younger brothers. My two elder sisters are married to monks and they are dependent on their husbands, who themselves have scarce income. They have their own families to look after, and expecting support from them is simply impossible. One of my younger brothers is also married and he stays at home looking after his family. He is uneducated and does not have any viable source of income. My younger brother is studying in class ten.

Till now, our expenses were mounting and our mother is now 59 years old has struggle to send two of us to school. She says that our father died when we were very young but we have never seen him. To supplement her income, I weave during my free hours and I work for other people who are willing to employ me.

I was told one of my friends regarding the scholarship for girls from economically disadvantaged family. I thought it was dream come true for me so I decided to apply for it and I got selected. This scholarship really helps me to continue my studies and definitely helps me to help my poor and desperate single parent and relatives.
