Nothing beats the excitement of splashing a bucket full of coloured
water on your friend or faculty and cheering
with joy as they scream in reaction. It
was a thrilling moment as the student
community and some faculty colured the
campus and played Holi during the festival
of colours in late February.
On Holi Dahan, the eve of Holi 27th
Feb, students started the celebration
by throwing coloured powder and water
on each other. They knocked at every
door in the hostel and shared some "coloured
happiness".
On Holi itself 28th Feb, it seemed like
a competition to get the most colour
on others as they played energetically
and danced. Snacks and refreshments
were shared as well, but most of all
happiness was spread to each other.
According to Hinduism, Holi signifies
the day when the devotee of Lord Vishnu,
Bhakta Prahlad escaped being burnt by
fire as was the evil plan of demoness
Holika. Instead she got burnt. It is
also a celebration of harvest of crops,
the end of winter season and evil. Bon
fires are lit on the day before Holi
and seasonal harvests of gains, coconuts
etc are offered in the flame
It was amazing to relieve our childhood
in colourful play.
